alltäglich
Meaning and usage: Alltäglich commonly describes something as ordinary or part of everyday life. It may be a problem, event or experience that is familiar rather than exceptional. It can also express occurrence every day, so the word is not exclusively a value judgment. In many learner contexts, it is useful to start with the ordinary meaning and then recognize the documented frequency overlap.
Grammar: Adjective, also usable adverbially. Before a noun it inflects: ein alltägliches Problem. After sein it is unchanged: die Situation ist alltäglich.
Das ist ein alltägliches Problem in großen Teams.
That is an everyday problem in large teams.
Der Film zeigt alltägliche Gespräche zwischen Nachbarn.
The film shows ordinary conversations between neighbors.
täglich
Meaning and usage: Täglich is the direct everyday choice for stating daily frequency. A service can run täglich; you can have a tägliche Routine. This frequency does not determine whether the activity is boring or ordinary. The adjective can also have an everyday or usual sense in some contexts, so translation is not governed by a perfectly sealed boundary between the two words.
Grammar: Adjective used attributively or adverbially. Ein täglicher Spaziergang takes an adjective ending; Ich gehe täglich spazieren has no added ending.
Ich wiederhole die neuen Wörter täglich nach dem Frühstück.
I review the new words every day after breakfast.
Der tägliche Bericht dauert nur wenige Minuten.
The daily report takes only a few minutes.
Overlap and context
A tägliche Aufgabe can also be alltäglich: it happens every day and is routine. Conversely, an everyday problem need not affect one person on every single day. The contrast is a helpful default interpretation, with genuine dictionary-attested overlap. A specific calendar statement may be clearer than either adjective if frequency is critical.
Common mistakes
- Do not infer every day automatically from an alltägliches Problem. The phrase often describes a commonplace problem.
- For explicit daily frequency, täglich is a clear default. Do not replace it merely to make a sentence sound more advanced.
- Adverbs do not acquire the noun’s ending: Ich übe täglich, but meine tägliche Übung. The difference is grammatical use.
Memory aid: Täglich answers how often. Alltäglich often answers how ordinary. Keep the word often: the meanings overlap.

täglich
The sentence states frequency and time. Täglich directly expresses every day, while alltäglich may introduce an ordinary-life emphasis.
