Choose the verb before adding frequency
Spielen works with football and tennis, but not as a universal sport verb. Use schwimmen, Rad fahren or Yoga machen for those activities. In Ich fahre gern Rad, the finite verb is fahre; Rad remains a noun with a capital R.
Add a realistic frequency: einmal pro Woche, zweimal im Monat or am Wochenende. Gern describes your liking for the activity; it does not tell the listener how often you do it. Ich schwimme gern, aber nur selten separates the two meanings.
Invite someone to an activity
- A
- Gehst du am Samstag schwimmen?
- B
- Ja. Möchtest du mitkommen?
- A
- Gern. Um wie viel Uhr?
- B
- Um zehn. Wir treffen uns vor dem Schwimmbad.
- A
- Gut, bis Samstag!
Describe a small part of your routine
Write three sentences: an activity you like, how often you do it and a concrete invitation. Keep the invitation separate from the general habit: Ich spiele oft Tennis. Spielst du am Sonntag mit?
If someone declines, ask a genuine follow-up: Passt dir ein anderer Tag? You are practising communication, not trying to prove that one activity or training schedule suits everyone.

Questions learners ask
Can I use spielen for every sport?

Why is Rad capitalized?
Rad is still a noun in Rad fahren. Radfahren written as one word is a nominalized activity, for example das Radfahren.
