How to reply to Frohe Weihnachten
| Situation | Reply | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| One friend | Danke, dir auch! | Thanks, you too! |
| A group of friends | Danke, euch auch! | Thanks, you all too! |
| A formal recipient | Vielen Dank. Ihnen ebenfalls schöne Feiertage! | Thank you very much. A lovely holiday to you too! |
| A simple acknowledgment | Vielen Dank für die netten Wünsche. | Thank you for the kind wishes. |
A reciprocal wish works when the holiday is shared. You can also simply thank the speaker. There is no need to give a long explanation of your beliefs or plans in an ordinary brief exchange. Unlike a birthday, Christmas can naturally invite a “you too” response.
