Separate the ingredient question from the decision
Enthält die Soße Milch? asks whether the sauce contains milk. Sind die Maultaschen mit Fleisch gefüllt? asks about the filling. A vegetable name, photograph or translated dish name does not answer those questions by itself. If staff say they do not know yet, that is uncertainty, not a negative answer. Ask for the actual ingredients and preparation to be checked.
Ask about what the menu does not specify
„Was ist in den Maultaschen drin?“ — “What is inside the Maultaschen?”
„Welche Beilage gehört dazu?“ — “Which side dish comes with it?”
„Kann ich statt der Bratkartoffeln einen Salat bekommen?“ — “Can I have a salad instead of the fried potatoes?”
„Kostet der Wechsel extra?“ — “Does the change cost extra?”
When ingredients are important, ask the restaurant directly. For an allergy, state it and ask about ingredients and preparation; a translated name cannot establish suitability. Keep the request concrete rather than assuming a dish is suitable because the main word sounds familiar.
Two situations to practise
The following situations are invented for language practice. They do not describe a particular venue or its actual prices. Use the stated conditions for each example.
Ask about an ingredient
Enthält die Soße Milch?
Das weiß ich nicht genau. Ich frage in der Küche nach.
The first sentence asks about one ingredient. The second says the answer is not yet known and will be checked; do not read it as confirmation that the sauce contains no milk.
State an allergy and request clarification
Ich bin gegen Haselnüsse allergisch.
Können Sie bitte die Zutaten und die Zubereitung prüfen?
This is a language model for clearly communicating the issue and requesting a check. It is not a medical assessment, a guarantee about traces or a substitute for the actual answer from the venue.
