Name the flat shape with its article and plural
A–E name flat shapes. The drawing can show a boundary or a filled area. For a real object, specify which part or view you mean: the front of a clock can be round even though the clock itself has thickness.

Distinguish the flat outline from a solid body
F–H represent bodies with depth. Their surfaces are projected onto this flat drawing. Edges, receding faces and shading distinguish the solid models from the flat reference above. A circular outline alone would not tell you whether you are looking at a flat circle or the outline of a ball.

This guide uses der Quader – die Quader. Duden also records the feminine variant die Quader – die Quadern. Keep the chosen article and its matching plural together. The plural of der Würfel – die Würfel likewise has the same form as the singular.
Choose a naming noun or a describing adjective
A naming noun and a describing adjective do different jobs. Das ist ein Quadrat. names the shape; Die Unterlage ist quadratisch. describes a mat. The noun starts with a capital. The adjective in this ordinary use starts with a lowercase letter and has no ending after ist.

There is no one suffix that turns every shape noun into its adjective. Learn the actual pair. Before a noun, the adjective needs a suitable ending: eine quadratische Unterlage. That is a different construction from Die Unterlage ist quadratisch. The existing adjective-endings guide handles the full decision.
Use the shape to identify the intended object

Describe one view of an everyday object
Choose three simple objects around you. Name the object, the part or view you are describing and the shape: Die Tischplatte ist oval. Then change the description into a noun phrase if useful. For a rounded or irregular object, fast or ungefähr can keep the statement accurate. You are practising German description, not proving that a manufactured object is a perfect mathematical model.

What is the difference between Kreis and Kugel?
In this geometric use, der Kreis is a flat circular line or area; die Kugel is a three-dimensional spherical body. A round outline alone needs context to show which is meant.
Is a Quadrat also a Rechteck?
Yes. A square is a rectangle with all four sides equal. When a task asks for the more specific name, Quadrat is the intended answer; Rechteck is still a true broader category.
Should I say Quadrat or quadratisch?
